Wintertime is tough on skin. The combination of cold temperatures, wind, and arid indoor air can lead to dry skin. On top of that, most acne medications like benzoyl peroxide and Retin A, dry the skin too. How can you relieve excessive dryness and flaking while still effectively treating your acne?Tips for Winter skin care

The skin on your hands is thinner than in other areas of your body, and it needs extra protection and care. Make sure that after washing your hands you dry thoroughly and use a good hand cream. Wearing gloves outdoors will also protect them and keep your winter skin care soft.

Elbows, knees, and feet are completely covered in the winter months, and usually forgotten until spring. Clothing and boots can cause friction that creates a buildup of thick skin. A good scrubbing with a natural lofah sponge, followed by a rich cream will remove any problems here.

Wear gloves. Gloves are a simple, easy way to help protect hands from the cold temperatures and dry air that triggers eczema, while also helping to eliminate cracked and splitting cuticles and nails.

Apply lipblock. Ultraviolet rays are strong during the winter due to the reflection of the sun off of the snow. By applying lipblocks or lipsticks that contain a high sun protection factor (SPF), men and women can help prevent lip cancer. This is especially important for people with fair skin care tips and light eyes.

Dress in layers: Being bundled up in the winter can cause overheating – even if it’s cold outside. Overheating and sweating often leads to itching. If you wear layers, you can remove clothing as needed to prevent getting too warm. Choose loose-fitting cotton fabrics for the most comfort. Also be sure to wear gloves to protect your hands from the cold, dry air to prevent cracking and chapping.

Examine your skin care regimen: Try not to use products like Retin-A or Renova without also using a high-SPF sunscreen. These products make your skin more susceptible to getting a sunburn. If you have sensitive skin, refrain from using sloughing products such as alpha-hydroxy acids because they have a tendency to aggravate dry, irritated skin.

Moisturize daily. Immediately after a shower, pat skin dry (do not rub) and apply moisturizer to help trap moisture in the outer layers of your skin. Carry a travel-size container of lotion with you so you can replenish your skin moisture throughout the day.
