Head Lice Treatment

Head lice combs

Head lice combs with long rounded stainless steel teeth, positioned very close together, are the most effective. However, any head lice comb can be used.

Make a concoction of olive oil, tea tree shampoo, sweet almond oil, coconut oil and then some tea tree oil. Apply on hair for one hour and rinse in water and hot air dry, then shampoo

• 12 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
• 25 drops Rosemary essential oil
• 13 drops Geranium essential oil
• 25 drops Lavender essential oil
• 5 drops Tea tree oil essential oil
• 5 drops Cypress essential oil
• 5 drops Citrus essential oil
• 3 oz. vegetable oil

Shake ingredients in a shaker i.e.: cruet. Let sit on hair for 2-3 hours. Wrap hair in saran wrap or put a plastic shower cap over the hair. This should do 2 treatments. This is a very effective method of getting rid of these bugs (At least it worked well for my family). Put this treatment on dry hair for best results and then cover with a shower cap. This method is helpful in to remove head lice.

Anti-louse lotion, either gammabenzene hexachloride lotion or cream (Lorexane, Gammaexane) or Malathion (Prioderma) will kill the eggs which can be removed by a comb with very fine teeth. One treatment is enough but all the family who are infested should be treated and the hair examined regularly for a while. You may consult a doctor for the treatment.

Mix olive oil with tea tree oil and apply to the hair and rub into the scalp. Wait for half-an-hour or an hour before washing. Now, wash the hair to remove the oil and rinse the hair again with vinegar. This would loosen the ‘glue’ holding the nits to the hair shaft. Finally comb the hair to get rid of any remaining lice.

Olive oil, vegetable oil or conditioner applied to the child’s head is a popular alternative treatment to get rid of head lice. Mayonnaise is also a popular choice. The oil or cream if applied and left overnight, covered with a shower cap, suffocates the lice. These can be removed by combing the hair with a lice comb.

Make a mixture by adding egg yolk, vinegar, and lemon juice. Take egg yolk of 2 eggs, add 2-3 tablespoon of vinegar and equal amount of lemon juice into it. Mix it well and apply on the scalp. Allow it to dry for 20-30 minutes and then wash it off with warm water. This remedy is helpful in head lice cure.
