Vitamins for Varicose Veins

There’re many vitamins recommended for those suffering from varicose veins. They may be in the form of processed supplements or ‘make-yourself’ drinks that contain these vitamins. One may also be advised to eat a certain kind of a diet to help their body get vitamins that either fight, reduce or eliminate varicose veins. Vitamins A, C, E, P, K and B-complex are some of the vitamins that are vital in the prevention, reduction and treatment of varicose veins. These vitamins can be found in medicinal herbs or as processed products in a drug store near you.

Vitamin A

Take at least 25,000 IU of this vitamin as it is great with your skin integrity and helps in ulcer healing. It is lack of vitamin A that leads to hardening of blood vessels and subsequently, blood clotting in the vein. Vitamin A is found in plenty in many foods like eggs, milk fat and the oils derived from fish liver. Some green and yellow fruits and vegetables like asparagus, alfalfa, broccoli, garlic, spinach, papaya, peaches and carrots also contain it. Beta-carotene contained in Vitamin A protects your body from problems primarily resulting from excessive pollution while at the same time preventing the formation of cancerous tumors in your body. With the proper intake of this vitamin, the natural ageing process is slowed down through the free radicals neutralizing factor. Note that it’s these ‘free radicals’ that cause the ageing process.

Vitamin C

Also called ascorbic acid, Vitamin C is rightfully and deservedly the king of vitamins. It has been proven that 120 illnesses can either be prevented or eliminated by this vitamin, taken in the right quantities.  If you’re suffering from varicose veins, taking vitamin C with flavanoids or oat bran (that help it to be absorbed by the body, increasing its effectiveness) will definitely improve blood circulation strengthen vein and capillary walls. You may also combine vitamin C with Gotu kola to enhance blood flow further increasing the tone of the connective tissue that surround the veins keeping them supple. 1000mg of vitamin C and 500mg flavanoids taken three times a day helps prevent varicose veins from forming on your body. However, you should reduce Vitamin C dose if diarrhea kicks in. vitamin C is also effective in curing sores. It is also a fact that vitamin C helps form collagen, an essential substance for the whole of your body, preventing abnormal functioning of collagen that if not checked produces aging, muscular pain, and inflammation of the blood vessels. Your vitamin C protects you against these eventualities.

Vitamin E

It is also called Tocopheral. It is stored in the liver, fat tissues, the heart, muscles, testicles, the uterus, the blood and in the adrenal and pituitary glands. Its main functions are to dilate blood vessels, improve circulation, strengthen capillary walls in the process dissolving blood clots, maintaining muscles and nerves. Gotu kola used in combination with vitamin E helps enhance blood flow, increasing the tone of the connective tissue surrounding the veins making them supple. It is recommended that you take 400 IU 2 times a day but be sure to check with your doctor if on anticoagulant drugs.

Vitamins P and K

Vitamin P (bioflavanoids) works in tandem with vitamin C to stregthen capillary and connective tissues. It also helps in the treatment of edema of tissues and vertigo. Vitamin P, through its bioflavanoids can help maintain arteries, quicken blood circulation and lower cholesterol. You can get it from citrus fruits, vegetables, cranberry, strawberries, peppers, grapes and grape seeds. Vitamin K, also called Menadione, is contained in green leafy vegetables, sunflower oil, dark molasses, yogurt and oats. It maintains the circulatory system, helps heal bruises on your skin, preventing internal bleeding and hemorrhages.

Vitamin B-complex

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) is utilized by skin to nourish it, as does Niacin (B3) which is good for the skin and nervous system. B2 is can be found in dark mollases, pecans, whole grain, almonds, brussel sprouts and brewing yeast. B3 is contained in shellfish, milk, poultry, chicken (breats) and peanuts.
