Herbal Skin Care

Everything that we encounter on a daily basis can affect our skin.  The environment, air born pollutants, sun, wind, rain, cold, heat.  Winter has the greatest effect on our skin robbing the moisture and leaving dry, itchy, flaky skin.  Women are constantly searching for natural remedies for proper skin care.  Of course, all women are looking especially for natural skin care for the face.  We all want to look younger and healthier.  Facial masks are the best at cleaning out clogged pores and reducing fine lines and wrinkles.  I found a few natural facial masks that really work great at giving that healthy and younger looking glow.  Remember to wash your face first before using a facial mask.

Facial Masks You Can Make At Home

Depending on what type of skin you have, there are a variety of natural facial masks you can make at home in your kitchen. It is best to use facial masks about at least once a week.  The best way to apply facial masks is with brushes not your fingertips.  Fingertips can bruise delicate skin especially in the tender areas around the eyes and lips.  When applying facial masks avoid the tender skin around the eye areas and lip areas including the lips.  Before using a facial mask wash, rinse and dry your face to get rid of any makeup residual, excess oils etc.   Here are a few tips for great facial masks according to what your skin type is:

For really oily skin rub milk of magnesia all over your face and let it dry.  Rinse with lukewarm water until your face is thoroughly clean.  Milk of magnesia is great for absorbing all of that excess oil.  To reduce that oil take all fried foods and fatty foods off your diet.  These two foods groups produce all of that excess oil.  Use a facial mask at least once a week but use an oil controlling facial cleanser followed by a gentle astringent everyday.  Make sure to use make up that is for oily skin, as this will also help to absorb oil that accumulates during the day.  Take the make up off every night followed by an oil control facial cleanser, astringent and nighttime moisturizer for oily skin.  After treatment follow with witch hazel as a toner.

If you have normal or combination skin, mix one egg and ½ cooked instant oatmeal with a teaspoon of olive oil.  Mix until smooth.  Spread the mixture on your face and leave on for 15 minutes then rinse our face thoroughly.  Follow with your daily or nightly moisturizer.  You can also mix a few teaspoons of warm water with kosher salt.  Gently scrub your face and thoroughly rinse with lukewarm water.  This works great for clogged pores and blackheads.  Again, follow up with either your daily or nightly moisturizer or for oil skin, a toner.

If you have dry skin mix together one egg yolk and one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of olive oil and vitamin E oil (optional).  Apply to your face and leave on for 15 minutes.  Rinse with lukewarm water and gently pat dry.  If you notice your skin is a bit dry after using the mixture, try applying a drop of olive oil, or any other type like Crisco oil directly to your skin.  You could also try facial masks formulated for dry skin.  After treatment use moisturizer while your skin is still damp.

Try Facial Scrubs Instead Of Soap

Rinse your face first to get rid of any residuals such as extra oil or grit.  This facial scrub is good for any type of skin.  First, use a hot washcloth to open the pores on your face.  If you have oily skin, moisten about a cup of oatmeal into like a gooey past then use it to scrub your face avoiding the eye and lip area.  Let dry then wash off with cool water.  For normal to oily skin add egg white, for dry skin add egg yolk.
