Makeup Care How-To’s

As it is with other things we have, makeup should also be taken cared of properly. It is not enough that we tuck them away someplace else and be complacent with the fact that they are there, safely hidden from other people and from unwanted dust particles. But there’s actually more to it when it comes to great makeup care. There are lots of things which must also be noted when it comes to protecting not just our makeup but more so our skin from all these products we often wear.

A general makeup care tip is to be mindful of your makeup’s expiration date. Yes, even makeup has its own expiration date. Each type of makeup for that matter also has a particular shelf life which must be monitored and not treated lightly because these products also degenerate in quality through time. When it comes to blush on and powder, these makeup products must not be used for over 2 years. Other makeup such as eye shadow, foundation, and lipstick needed replacement after a year regardless if there’s still a good amount of them left. Among all the makeup tools which can be found inside your kit, it is the mascara which has the least shelf life. It can only last effectively within two months and should be thrown away after that. When it comes to expiration date, the dates themselves are what’s most important and not the material still left behind.

Aside from these makeup products, makeup tools such as brushes and sponges also need some good makeup care. Generally, it would be best for your facial skin to use these makeup tools in applying makeup so it is expected that they can be found within your makeup kit. These tools should be washed on a monthly basis by using antibacterial soap to scrub off the potential bacterial build-up. Afterwards, you should rinse them off with warm water to ensure that any residual germs will be killed. After brushes and sponges have been washed, do not store them and keep them off right away. Let them dry first before you begin using them once more.

The means of storing these makeup products and tools are also very important when it comes to proper makeup care. All of these must be stored within a dry and cool place to preserve their quality. Therefore, makeup kits or these makeup agents should never be left exposed under direct heat or even sunlight as they may melt down. Aside from melting down, the excessive heat can also be absorbed by these makeup products and alter their chemical compound therefore causing their overall quality to degrade. It might also affect your skin when you eventually apply them.

Since storage is also an aspect of makeup care, so do makeup bags and makeup kits. The best type of make up bag is one that can protect your makeup materials from external agents such as dust, liquid, and even direct heat. Makeup bags made out of plastic or leather are among the best choices for good quality storages. Size does not actually matter, so long as you can easily fit them if you plan to carry it inside your purse and as long as it can hold all of your important makeup tools without damaging them.

Moreover, makeup bags should also be cleaned at least once a month. This would help you track which makeup products should you finally throw out and if there are any tools which just lay inside your bag yet you no longer use it or even find it the least bit useful. It’s also recommended that you include a tiny comb as well as a compact mirror within your makeup bag at all times for rush retouch sessions. You should also bring in a compact powder although you have your foundation with you. This loose powder would help cover up the oiliness of your T-zone area. You may notice that there is a plastic covering the powder itself, just beneath where the puff rests. Do not throw this away for hygienic purposes.
