Choosing the Best Type of Foundation

Foundation is the most important makeup base because it sets the tone of how your whole makeup will look like. It does not only help prepare your face as an artistic canvass but it also helps hide those unwanted wrinkles and most of all, those blemishes you have accumulated through time.

However, people have different types of skin and different needs so it is important that women make sure that the foundation they would wear will not cause them any unwanted and harmful effects. Thus, foundations types have been created to cater to the different types of skin tones.  Generally, foundation types are all packed with moisturizing agents and skin vitamins to ensure that a youthful glow can be achieved. Aside from these vital ingredients, these products have also begun to include sun protection as its main ingredient to protect the skin from harmful UV rays.

Since there are a lot of foundation types, the key to finding the one which will suit you best is to know first what your skin type is. Skin types range from normal, dry, oily, and the combination of dry and oily skin. Aside from these, skin types may also include some skin sensitivity particular to various types of exposure. Some people may develop unwanted rashes from sun exposure, dust, and even through contact with powder. The best way to know what your skin type is and any other possible considerations is by consulting a licensed dermatologist.

After having gone through this process, you can now proceed to choose among these foundation types. Foundation types generally differ from one another in terms of how they are presented and what they are made of. However, all of them have the same basic ingredients essential to every facial product (i.e. moisturizers, vitamins). They also differ in terms of how they should be applied on the face and how they should be blended with other colors. What follows here are the many different foundation types which you can choose from.

1. Sheer Foundation – This is the most common and most popular type of foundation among women. This is primarily because it relies on your natural skin color and serves to highlight that inner glow. Sheer foundation is also light on the skin thus creating a more natural result. Those who purchase this type of foundation are women who live or work in warm environments. Since sheer foundation is generally powdered in form, they are non-sticky and they can be easily applied. This is also the type of foundation recommended for people with normal skin and for those who are still in their teens.

2. Liquid Foundation – This is probably the most flexible among the different types of foundation. It can provide the wearer with a wide range of different looks depending on how it will be blended and applied on the face. This is also a popular choice for women because it can stay applied on the face for hours. Retouching is not that necessary. Liquid foundation is also popular for the additional ingredients it has which aims to nurture the skin. Vitamins and skin enhancers are easily blended with liquid foundation.

3. Compact Foundation – This is the preferred choice of foundation for women on the go. It is very easy to carry wherever and usually comes with a compact mirror so women can easily retouch themselves with ease. This type of foundation also comes in powder form but once it is applied and used on the skin, it gives the feel of a liquid foundation. It is also very easy and practical to use because it can be easily controlled depending on how much you would actually want to place on your skin.

4. Matte Foundation – For frequent night-outs and for party-goers, this type of foundation is the preferred choice. Because of it’s no-shine appeal, it becomes a choice for night-outs and celebrations because they would not reflect on pictures. This is the exact opposite of the illuminating foundation which is shiny and even contains ingredients to produce a shimmery effect on the skin.
