Applying Lipstick and the Basics

The lips are considered to be one of the focal points found on the face apart from the eyes. This is why applying lipstick can sometimes be enough for an over makeup look. Not only does applying lipstick seem to be that universal. Apart from this, it is also one of the easiest things to apply as a makeup. Once you have applied some lipstick on your lips, you can immediately transform them to give out a luscious and fuller appeal.

But because it entails simple procedures, women often forget about the basics and the essentials when it comes to applying lipstick. Usually, they tend to focus so much on the other makeup stuff that they forget about the worth of choosing the best lipstick color. That’s right, everything about lipstick starts from choosing the best color. If you choose a shade which is too bright, your lips might stand out too much and get too much attention than necessary. The best way to go about it is to choose a lipstick color which matches the tone of your lips. Another thing you need to consider is to get a lipstick color which also complements the overall look of your makeup. If you are wearing light makeup, you should also stick with the same theme when it comes to choosing the lipstick color. Nude usually works best for natural-looking lips.

Aside from the color, another important thing you need to consider in applying lipstick is the form and texture of the lipstick itself. Nowadays, lipstick does not just come in tubes. Lipstick can also come in palette form just the same as it is with eye shadow and it also applies the same principle. Palette-styled lipstick compacts are best for makeup professionals who want to have a set of colors always within reach. However, if you choose to have a lipstick palette instead of the usually lipstick form, you should also invest in a good lip brush. Of course you cannot simply dab a sponge much less your fingertips is you use lipstick palettes. You also need to apply it in a more detailed way, ensuring that it will shape your lips well.

You would also care to consider the essential ingredients found in the lipstick. For some time, the world of makeup took quite a shake when it was found out that some lipstick products contained lead. Lead is considered to be a very harmful element and should never be exposed directly to humans in any for of contact. So before you try out a new makeup brand, research first about their lipstick ingredients and make sure that they are lead-free. Now if you need to steer away from lead content, you should definitely consider buying lipstick which contains SPF compounds and sunscreen. After all, your lips are still considered as skin and they can also be threatened when exposed to UV rays. Apart from sunscreen ingredients, lipstick is also known to contain moisturizing ingredients to keep your lips soft while wearing the lipstick.

Applying lipstick also has different tips and strategies depending on the type of lips where it would be applied. Apart from lipstick alone, using a lip liner will also be essential for this purpose. For those who have thick lips, wearers may want to consider toning them down so that they wouldn’t attract too much attention. This can be done by drawing an outline which follows the natural shape of the lips. Then the shade which must be used must be kept in medium tone to keep it neutral. Dark colors and light shades must be avoided.

For those who have thin lips, this can be corrected by using a lip liner and extending the outline of the lip borders by drawing outside the natural lip border area. This must be done deliberately and steadily so that the lip liner can still follow the natural shape of the lips on the extended area. After this, the lips can finally be colored and usually dark shade is preferred to easily blend in the edges and outline created by the lip liner together with the lipstick shade itself. This can be further highlighted by placing some frosting on the upper part of the lips to create an even fuller look.
