Foundation, as the name implies, is the basic structure of any makeup. If you do not apply foundation on your face before you put on whichever type of makeup especially on the cheeks you might not get the desired look you want for yourself. Putting foundation on can somewhat be likened to putting on some undergarments before you put on the actual clothes you’ll wear. So to keep your skin happy and comfortable while wearing makeup, you should definitely not miss out on wearing foundation.

However, there are different types of foundation which you can choose from. Basically, a foundation is being used so that a smoother finish can be achieved while wearing makeup. Foundation comes in different types because they aim to suit the differing needs of various skin types. It is essential that you choose first the right type which will fit your skin before applying foundation. Here are the many different types which you can choose from.

1.    Tinted with Moisturizers – This is a good blend of natural-looking cheek tint plus the moisturizing agents. Aside from plainly making your skin appear smoother and flawless while applying foundation, you can also get your skin hydrated and nourished through its moisturizing content. This is the type of foundation which is recommended for young adults and for those who have normal clean skin.

2.    Liquid Foundation – This particular type can be used by any skin type except for those with dry skin. This is also preferred by most makeup professionals because it lasts longer once applied. In addition, it also easily blends in with other makeup applications placed of the skin.

3.    Cream Foundation - Applying foundation with a cream-base is recommended for those with mature skin that has a dry texture. Usually, this type of foundation comes in thickly and is also made rich with moisturizers which are why they are generally heavy in texture. To be able to apply them well on your face, you must use a damp cosmetic sponge to spread it evenly on your skin.

4.    Compact Foundation – This is actually the most popular and regularly used type of foundation. The formula in this type is already made and ready for application. This is also ideal for quick and easy touch-ups. You no longer have to worry as well about the makeup tool you’d have to use while applying this particular type of foundation because it already comes with its own handy cosmetic sponge.

After you have finally chosen the right type of foundation to use for your skin, you can now proceed with applying the foundation on your face. When you go about applying foundation, the first thing you need to remember is to put some moisturizer on you face first and apply it evenly. This gives your face a natural base. It also helps promote youthful suppleness all the while you’re wearing makeup. You should also consider getting some sunscreen put on your face so that you can be protected from harmful UV rays once you go out and face the sun.

Next off, you should start putting on foundation by putting on 4 dabs on your face through the use of your fingertips. The four major spots where you should dab your foundation are as follows: forehead, both cheeks, and the chin. After dabbing the foundation on these spots, you can finally proceed with smoothening it out through the use of a sponge. Once you have smoothened your foundation base, make sure that you also blend it evenly and there are no spots which appear to have heavier foundation content as compared with the others.

Then once you’re totally done with applying foundation, you can now proceed with topping it all of by applying loose powder. Applying loose powder helps seal in your foundation and also makes it appear more natural. Throughout the day, you no longer have to redo your foundation if you have a loose powder handy.
