The Essentials in Applying Eye Shadow

One of the trickiest parts of makeup is applying eye shadow. This is because it usually requires blending of different colors together and it also involves help in bringing out the natural beauty of the eyes. Along with this, you should also care about matching your eye shadow not just with the other makeup you’ll be putting on your face. You also have to match it with the color and the style of the clothes which you will be wearing. If the eye shadow is applied too much, you may end up looking like a disaster. Yet when applied too little, you may appear too pale or even sickly.

Aside from the purpose, what also make applying eye shadow such a difficult task at times are the different strokes to be followed. Yes, the application of eye shadow does not simply involve a back and forth motion or the usual method you do when it comes to putting colors on your face. Experts say that the best way to go about this is to just focus on the eyes itself. People usually make the mistake of thinking too much about the eyelids, they tend to focus too much on how much makeup can they apply on it or what colors would blend on it. If you focus on the eye instead, you will end up bringing out more likely than you would if the eyelids are what you will focus on.

Applying eye shadow effectively also greatly depends upon the shades itself. Some people think that thinking about their current mood and their current outfit alone would make things turn out great once they apply their makeup. But actually, the success in eye shadow application lies behind the time when you will be wearing it. Colors of course react on the natural light which reflects upon them, so before anything else you should first consider the time when you will be wearing the eye shadow and your entire makeup.

If the eye shadow will be worn during the day, you should choose shades which are light and neutral in color. This means you may have to stick with earth colors such as brown and beige to give you a classic day-time look. It’s best to stick with the classic and simple shades during day time because chances are, the sun would just gleam so brightly on your face and colors would not be seen that much. However, if you want to experiment with different shades and different colors even textures, you can do this for night-time makeup. Diffused and controlled lighting can help accentuate the colors that you will be wearing during that time.

Applying eye shadow is also not just about the strokes and the color but it is also about the texture. Eye shadow comes in different finishes and style packaging. Like foundations and other skin applications, they may also come in as creams, powder, liquid, and even pencil. Moreover, their texture can also appear as matte-finish, shimmer, glitter, and some are even specialized enough to cater to dry skin. Nowadays, you may notice that manufacturers have utilized compacts for eye shadows. This is because it is a well established fact that when it comes to eye shadows, there will always be blending involved. Within these compacts, eye shadow is not just divided according to different colors but as well as textures.

Another major concern about applying eye shadow is the step by step procedure when it comes to blending colors together. When you apply eye shadow, you should begin by applying the lighter shades first and these colors should be applied on the lash line and underneath the eye brows.  Then the medium shades would follow and this shall be applied on the lash line still until the the creases of the eye lids. The darkest shade would come in to highlight the crease of the eyes. Applying eye liner and mascara will depend upon your preference if you still want to highlight your eyes further.
