Laser Hair Removal

Two years ago, my best friend, John, decided that he wanted to undergo laser hair removal. Being a professional swimmer, he also decided that he wanted to eradicate all of his hair except for his eyebrows and the hair on his head.

So, John and I did some research on laser hair removal.

The first field of laser hair removal that we found was targeted towards the legs. This particular area was particularly popular in the hair removal industry. The cost would be between $400 and $850 for each treatment, depending on the thickness of the patient’s hair, and each session would probably last for about an hour. We were also warned that the facilities with the lowest price may not, in actuality, be the best place to go, since they could be using outdated technology or even unsanitary tools, not to mention that the possible lack of expertise in the person who utilized these tools.

The next area of laser hair removal that we found was back hair. As we were reading up on this field, John and I found out that some back hair was not removed as merely a beauty issue. Apparently, some back hair could become infected and itchy, causing very serious discomfort. Laser hair removal of such hair could prevent conditions such as folliculitis, and worked better than waxing, shaving, or depilatories for the simple reasons that it lasted longer, did not further irritate the follicles of the back hair, and was much easier to have done than any of the other choices. The cost for this procedure ranged from $600 to $900 per visit, once again depending on the density of the patient’s hair and usually required four to six treatments, depending on the size of hair and density, each session lasting about an hour long.

Next we discovered laser hair removal of the chest and abdominal region. This procedure, relatively painless, generally took three to six sessions and was about an hour each time. The price range was $300 to $600 per visit.

The arms were next on our list. In this area of laser hair removal, which was also generally less painful than waxing, three to five treatments were usually needed, and cost anywhere from $250 to $500 per treatment and each treatment lasted less than an hour. We were reminded that an annual session after the initial three to five treatments may be necessary to keep the hair from growing back.

After the arms, we researched laser hair removal of the underarms. The underarms generally had a very small surface area and so only took a few minutes to treat, generally requiring several treatments for permanent hair removal. The price of this procedure was generally between $100 and $250 per visit, depending on the density and size of hair.

Next we investigated the possibility of bikini waxing. Of course, John didn’t need a bikini wax, but it was in the same area, right? This area, like the back, was prone to cases of folliculitis, which laser hair removal could help to remove. Most pubic hair could be removed in three to six treatments, costing between $350 and $600 per treatment.

The last form of laser hair removal that we researched was of the facial area. Many women had problems with unwanted hair on their face and tried to tweeze all of the hair, which could turn out badly because the hair follicles could become agitated with repeated tweezing. Laser hair removal of the facial area could also be used for men as well though. The cost per visit was between $150 and $350 for each facial area. It was recommended that laser hair removal not be used on the eyebrow area or near the eyes though, because the wavelengths from the laser could harm the eyes.

John ended up getting a majority of these procedures and is now swimming in style, faster than before! I’m proud of him!
