Head lice are very tiny wingless parasite that attached to a person\'s hair. The reason for that is they need blood to survive and the easiest way to the scalp is by attaching to hair shafts. Head lice is also known as pediculus humanus capitis. Getting rid of head lice though can sometimes be an never ending battle. This is why knowing the diagnosis of head lice is very important.

Three Stages Of Head Lice


There are three stages to head lice that are known. They are the bug, nymph, and adult. A lice egg is also known as a nit. Female lice lay an egg at the bottom of the hair, but lice eggs cannot grow at room temperature. It usually takes 7 to 14 days for a lice egg to full grow. They are usually tan, yellow or brownish in color and many people confuse them with dandruff thus many times head lice goes undetected. This is why diagnosis of head lice is so very important. I can\'t stress how important this is. Unlike dandruff though lice nits and eggs can not easily be brushed away like dandruff can.

Lice eggs are large in size and pretty easy to notice in the hair. Nymphs are little lice that are developing into adults which usually takes about a week. Adult head lice looks like seeds so they are much easier to distinguish. Adult head lice will also be of a darker color which makes it easier to spot. They can move around your hair at a surprisingly fast rate. Don\'t let people tell you they are real easy to get rid of them as that is a falsehood that exists throughout the world.

Getting Rid Of Head Lice

Once you have diagnosis of head lice than treatment is the next step that you will need to work on. Head lice is one of the hardest things to get rid of so knowing what they are and how to remove them is the first step to getting rid of them. Shampoos are the most common ways that people trying getting rid of head lice. For the most part these work well and get the job done with some exceptions. The head lice still needs to remove with a fine tooth combed that is usually included in whatever shampoo you buy at the store are given at a health care center.

Other ways to get rid of head lice of course is with prevention. Preventing infestation is a very good idea as you will have a lot less trouble dealing with head lice if you have some things in place first. Sharing hats and scarves from your friends is never a good idea as it\'s a good way to spread head lice and at a very quick rate. Checking your kids and family often for head lice is another way to stop the spread of head lice in your family. The one thing that you learn with head lice and that is it\'s a lot tougher to get rid of than it is to get. In fact many times you may not even know that you have it. This is how easy it is to get head lice in fact.

Diagnosis of head lice does take some time, but the more times that you see it the easier it will be for you. People sometimes mistake head lice and dandruff, but the big difference is dandruff will fall off head lice won\'t. Nits are young eggs that attach to egg shafts and are very hard to remove. The more eggs that are in your head the harder they are to remove. Infestation of head lice in your head will need to be treated more than once. As you learn to deal with head lice you will do more to prevent it so you don\'t have to go through it all the time.
