Hair loss in children is something that more parents and doctors are seeing all the time. The problem with hair loss in children is many things can cause this type of hair loss. From diet to emotions to medical conditions. Children aren\'t the easiest to diagnose and this is where the problem lies many times. hair loss can be a very traumatic time in a child\'s life so careful consideration must be made when any type of treatment at all is considered.
Tinea Capitis
Children\'s hair failure is usually caused by a thing called tinea Capitis. This problem in children is associated by a fungal infection that can effect things such as eyebrows, eyelashes and scalp.
This has also has been known as tinea tonsurans and ringworm on the skin of the scalp. The difficulty of tinea capitis is enhanced in the United States and different areas of the world where it\'s becoming a increasing problem in children.
Diagnosis
Many times scratching of a certain area is the best way a doctor can really tell of the disease. In most of cases. Sometimes though the only real way to know is by running tests on the effected area.
Treatments
Different treatments are available with various success rates. Most of the time antifungal like griseofulvin is very effective in treating it. This type of medicine is taken with a glass of water to the mouth for around two whole months. Other things are Nizoral shampoo which is used to clean the whole scalp and is used two or three weeks for usage usually stops for that. Most of the time this disease tinea capitis can not be spread from child to child, but you really can\'t rule that out that\'s for sure.
Another hair loss in children disease that you will need to look closer at is alopecia areta. This disease comes in the form of lost hair of oval or round shape appearance in the hair. Most children these lost patches of hair are just smooth without irritation or redness. It\'s usually happens when the immune system will attack hair follicles and they fall out leaving these patches of lost hair on a child\'s head. Only around 5 percent of children actually get it so that is a good thing.
The bad side of this is their aren\'t any real tests to check for this which makes it hard to prevent. The effected area can be tested to find out if they do have alopecia areata, but that is all really. No real treatment is available for it, however through you should consult your physician for ways to best treat it. They are always having new innovations so this is something that you may want to look into.
Children And Hair Loss
Children and hair loss really is a very touchy subject for many different reasons. Medicine\'s that may work on adults will not work on children. The main reason is the makeup of a children is much different than an adult. Children have emotional issues about losing hair which is also something that you must consider when dealing with hair loss in children. Don\'t let people think that children are any happier with losing hair than adults. It hurts them a lot and more than people sometimes realize.
Finding treatments for children are very hard for a number of reasons. One of those being not many children like to be test projects for researchers. This means finding kids to test the new innovations on is very hard. This is probably one of the main reasons that we struggle coming up with medicine for children with hair loss. I look for that to continue for awhile.
The scars of losing your hair for a child is something that many adults take for granted. Children must face their peers everyday at school with the hair loss and it\'s something that really bugs them. So, hair loss is very important to them and it\'s not something that any child ever wants to go through especially if they don\'t have too. |
