Hair Care
I sighed, fingering the dry edges of my ebony hair. “I need to make a hair appointment,” I murmured to myself and picked up my phone, looking up a salon in my phonebook. One caught my eye: Salon Muse. I liked the name and I’d heard good things about the place and its hair care packages. I waited impatiently while the line rang and tapped my dark fingers on the counter. “Come on,” I said and someone picked up the phone.
“Hello, this is Salon Muse, Kristy speaking,” said a happy voice and I smiled.
“Hi, I was just wondering if I could make an appointment.”
“Well, of course!”
A few minutes later I got off the phone, smiling. I had a hair care appointment for a week from today and I thought that maybe these people would know what they were doing.
A week later I made my way to Salon Muse and smiled. The place was small and cozy, smelling of hair chemicals. I walked in and looked around, going to the desk by the door.
“Hi, I’m Evangeline. I made an appointment with Kristy,” I said hesitantly. The woman smiled.
“Of course! She’ll be with you in just a minute!” she replied cheerfully and I nodded, sitting down in the comfortable chairs that they had.
“Come on back, Evangeline!” said a blond woman. I smiled and went to her, sitting down in the chair.
“Wow, you’re hair is beautiful, but it’s really been worked hard,” she said and I smiled.
“Yeah, it’s really dry,” I said, shrugging.
“Well, I have some things you can do for that. But first, just a cut, correct?” Kristy asked and I nodded. “Okay, let’s bring you over to the sink here and I’ll give you a few hair care tips,” she said amiably and I let myself be walked over and sat down, leaning back so that she could wash my hair out.
“So, what do you do?” she asked in a friendly manner.
“I’m a swim coach,” I replied, smiling up at her.
“Oh, that’s good! A good life style leads to healthier hair! Keep that up!”
“Really?” I asked, surprised.
“Yeah, but you should probably try putting some conditioner in your hair before you swim, that way the chlorine won’t dry it out so much. Another thing is that you probably shouldn’t wash your hair every day if you can help it,” she informed me.
“Why?” I asked curiously.
“Well, when you shampoo your hair, it strips the oils off of it, but if you’ve just worked out or something you can probably use a gentle shampoo, just to get the sweat out, or just rinse,” she told me, and I nodded slightly listening to her hair care tips.
“How do I know if it’s a gentle shampoo?” I asked after a moment.
“Well, the lower the ph level, the better,” she told me and I nodded once more. “Also, make sure to use conditioner, none of that two-in-one stuff, it won’t do much for dryer hair. Anyway, conditioner will moisturize your hair and protect if from damage, not to mention that it’ll look phenomenal,” she added, now rinsing out the conditioner. She had me sit up and wrapped a towel around my long, thick hair, moving me back to the cutting seat.
“Now, I’d like to take a lot of this off. Are you up for that?” she asked, smiling.
“Sure, go for it!” I said enthusiastically.
“Awesome. Another hair care tip: when you dry your hair, rub in one direction so that you don’t cause tangles,” she said and I watched her in the big mirror as she quickly rubbed my hair until it was merely damp, rather than dripping wet.
“I think I can do that,” I said easily and she nodded.
She then began to cut my hair and I waited nervously as long strands of hair fell to the floor. She finally stepped back and smiled.
“You look fantastic!” she said and I looked into the mirror, smiling.
“I cut pretty much all of the hair that was damaged, so now you have a new start with all of the tips I’ve given you,” Kristy said and I grinned.
“Thanks!” I said and took myself and my new and my soon-to-be tip-improved hair happily from the salon. |
