Hair care products are any products produced specifically for the hair that serve to enhance, style or repair the hair. These can include shampoos, conditioners, styling gels, dyes and bleaches. Hair care products can also be brushes, combs, rollers (used to curl the hair) and straighteners (which use heat to uncurl hair). The products range in function from chemical to mechanical.
Certain shampoos and conditioners can be used to treat dry or damage hair, and to return hair to it\'s natural beauty, silkiness and shine. Many companies make products for this application and are easy to find at any salon or store with a beauty section. Many work to repair the cuticle (outer layer of the hair) which gives hair it\'s shine and healthy appearance. Shampoos and conditioners can also be used to give fine hair extra volume or body.
Styling gels are used to hold hair in a specific style. The right styling gel, spray or mousse can make hair look as if it is defying gravity to accomplish a certain hairstyle. These products can range from very strong holds for very elaborate hairstyles to minimal hold that will give hair just a bit of help staying in the desired formation. The amount of these products needed for an individual depends on the desired style as well as the individual\'s hair type. Fine hair may require more product to achieve a certain style than coarse or curly hair.
Hair brushes and combs are important hair care products. They help remove tangles and dirt from the hair. This is important because if tangles are allowed to remain for too long they can become unmanageable. This can lead to decreased quality of appearance of your hair, as well as lead to damaging of the hair. The best combs and brushes do not have spiky teeth, and are made from pliable or soft materials. Spiky or hard combs can exert too much force on the hair and contribute to breakages or damage, so it is important to find the softest and most rounded brush or comb that works for you.
Rollers are used to curl the hair. There are different styles and sizes so that the density and circumference of the curls can be tailored to the desired look. Rollers are heated and the hair is wrapped around them and allowed to sit. The heat makes the cortex (the structuring, second layer of hair beneath the cuticle) of the hair more pliable, and when removed the hair will retain the look of being wrapped around the roller. This creates curls, and depending on the size of the roller the curls can be large and wavy or very tight and numerous.
Hair straighteners do the opposite of rollers. They use heat to make the cortex of the hair pliable and then pull it straight. Usually straighteners look like big scissors, but instead of blades have large flat heated surfaces that the hair is pressed between. With straighteners it is important not to let the hair remain too long on the heated surface, or you can burn and damage the hair. Think of straightening hair as you would of ironing clothes: you never want to leave the material exposed to heat for too long, and therefore want to use smooth continuous motions and not let the straightener sit in one place for too long.
These hair care products can allow you to optimize the appearance and health of your hair, and bring out it\'s best and most flattering hair styles. It is always important to minimize the amount of tangles in your hair by using the right brushes and combs, because tangles can contribute to ratty or greasy looking hair, and a good daily hygiene regimen regarding your hair with the best hair care products can keep you looking your best. Shampoos and conditioners are important because they clean and moisturize the hair and scalp, which is integral to a healthy and easily manageable head of hair. |
