The primary ingredients for making perfume are Alcohol, water and essential oils. It is very simple for one to create their own concoction from home with these natural ingredients. However times have changed and the simple process of perfume making have become more complex. In the late 1800’s scientist had discovered that they could create natural aromatic scents synthetically. The ingredients of a perfume can be simple to quite complex; some natural oils will be great for your body, while some chemicals may cause damage to your nervous system. So it is always wise to check the ingredients of perfume bottle just like you would check the ingredients of a food that you were uncertain about.
There are many types of perfumes, for a perfume to be created it must have a certain amount of ingredient to make a pleasant scent. There are a lot of natural ingredients as well as different chemicals used when making perfume. Some scents can come from animals while other scents come from flowers and trees. Some popular scents that are created are created by animals.
Musk- is the secretion of male musk deer which gives off a musky scent adding a sensual note
Civet- is used as a fixative and its secretion is from a civet cat, giving off a musky smell
Cestrum- this is secretion from a beaver that is used as a fixative and gives off a leathery odor.
There are other non-animal ingredients like plants and trees there is a plethora to choose from, but some popular scents are amber, basil, bay leaf, benzoic, bergamot, geranium, lavender and sandalwood just to name a few. To make perfume other chemicals are added and sometimes they can cause potential health risks. Some chemicals such as ethylene chloride have been banned by the FDA, since it was known to cause dangerous side effects. There are a lot of chemicals in the ingredients of perfume, some chemicals that are use is acetone, ethanol and lianol. It would be wise for a person to check out all the possible ingredients in the perfume to ensure that they are not getting a sweet smelling spray that will be detrimental to their health. Some other ingredients that play a role in the production of perfume are limonene, ethyl acetate, camphor, benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Acetate, trinene and pinene.
So when one chooses to have a fragrance they must consider the health risks that are associated with these dangerous chemicals. However like food and everything else on this planet, smelling good should not be that harmful, always remember to use your perfume or fragrance sprays in moderation. One simple splash to the wrists and a subtle spray or dab to the neck should do the trick and your scent will last for the entire day. Don’t wear perfume every day, you can mix it up by wearing a body splash on certain days you do not wear your perfume. Wearing subtle and elegant styles to suit your personality and personal style should be fun and invigorating. So do not get too discouraged with the chemicals that are found in a lot of your favorite sprays. If you are a little weary about the ingredients always remember to ask your sales person about the product you choose to purchase or simply invest in wearing natural essential oils that do not have a chemical base. Or you can always create your own unique and natural scent.
There are different types of perfumes and all the scents can be created synthetically emulating the natural scent of the actual plant, flower or tree that the scent derived from. When choosing a scent, make sure it is a scent that you absolutely love and make sure you check the percentage rate of how many chemicals are in the product and check to see if the chemicals will have an effect on you in any way. |
