Dressing down to jaunt off for a Saturday picnic? Dressing up to the nines to hop \'n\' bop in that Sunday nightspot bash? Or dressing up for the Monday corporate conference? Well, no matter what the occasion is, you always yen for that perfect peachy \'n\' groovy look. And as everyone seems to have become a picky fashion victim, the fashion industry is actually plugging away to dish up more and more hip \'n\' chic costumes. No wonder you end up stuffing your wardrobe, but do you actually need all those outfits?

So many clothes and so little time! Does your wardrobe have stretch marks? Having closets crammed with beautiful clothes is a dream of every woman. However, it takes a lot of money to translate that dream into a reality. Clothes don’t come cheap. However, there are ways to shop smart and get the most for your money. With a few accessories, one can easily get 2-3 outfits out of one item. You got to learn as to how you can downsize your wardrobe, shop smart, and make the most of what you have.

Out with the old!

Many of us have clothes that are far too old. It is fine to hang onto things but having the same outfit hanging in the closet that you had on when Kennedy was assassinated is a bit over the top. You should go through your wardrobe once a year and get rid of what you don’t need. It isn’t as painful as it sounds and you’ll be surprised to know what all items you can part with. If you have more clothes than you can keep track of, just set the 3-year rule. This means that if you have not worn an outfit in the last three years, the chances are you won’t wear it at all. So, just get rid of it. If this fails to produce enough space then opt for 2-year rule. You can look for things that don’t fit you anymore. You would be surprised how many times people find things that have never been worn. If it has hung there that long without being worn, it doesn’t deserve any space.

There are of course things that you will keep that you don’t wear too often. Dresses and suits for special occasions should stay, but you need to appositely designate their own space in the wardrobe. If the thought of getting rid of old clothes is positively painful, something that might ease the blow is giving them to a clothing drive or a charity. This way you know that your clothes are going to someone who can really use them. Churches, the Red Cross, and many other charities are usually vying for donations. Call them up; they may even collect them from you.

In with the new!

Now that you have cleared that wardrobe space, it is time to possibly update and get some new things. This doesn’t mean filling it to capacity as it was before, but a few new items that you can use for work or other purposes are fine. The first thing you need to do before you whip out the credit card and hit the shops is to look at what you need. Cast a glance at the wardrobe and think of some items that could gel well with the existing ones. If you have 10 pairs of dress slacks but only 2 blouses or tops, then what you need should be fairly obvious. Just make a list of all that you need. Don’t start ambling in the shops without a plan. This can lead to overbuying and a re-stressing of the wardrobe.
